For this project I recreated the book
Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson into a new narrative structure.
I used the theme of breaking bonds and the duality of the protagonist’s character by splitting the book into two parts. The first is the main body of the text, set in a traditional style onto A3 paper on the right side of the book. The second section is smaller in size and set within the front cover.
To create the visual feel for this section I drew attention to the breaks in the story by covering the text in solid black, and picked out the words in the story which referenced breaking or binding. This represents the Hyde side of the book, with it being smaller and darker in appearance compared to the opposite side which is larger and based on shades of grey.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde is embossed onto the front in silver, on to a grey book cloth.
